My frustrating visit to the Katy Texas DMV office!

Has anyone been to the local DMV office in Katy lately?  My wife and I were in there a couple of years ago and I remember it going pretty smoothly.

However, yesterday was a totally different story as I went to replace my drivers license.  I arrived at the complex at approximately 10:45am.  The waiting room (which is to say more of a convention hall) had about 30 people waiting.  The "take a number" system seemed to be working and I took my number.

78.  And the Now Serving said 58.  Ok.  Not great but not too bad with only 20 people in front of me, right?  So I look around to see if there is anyone who can answer my question.  I just need a replacement license because of my new address and do I wait with everyone who is waiting to take the driving test or what.

I approach the "INFORMATION DESK" which has a big sign above it.  It is unmanned and stayed so for at least the next hour.  I say at least because I don't know if anyone ever manned it the rest of the day.

By 12pm, not a single number to be served had been called.  I heard one young lady mention that she had been waiting since about 9:30.  Finally, I had to leave.  I had clients to attend to and I couldn't even think about waiting for 20 people ahead of me at the rate of less than one per hour being assisted!

I know, I know.  I can do that online and forget all the hastle, but I really needed my DL now because I need to get a passport (see the next blog post on Passports!).

So I wondered, if anyone else has had a similar or better experience with the local DMV office in Katy?  If you have, I found an interesting link to a survey that can be filled out.  Perhaps with enough people filling in the form, they can get that place turned around and productive again with our tax dollars!!

Take a DMV survey here.
